When Jason Adrian won a free summer at Camp Ravenwyng, it opened a whole new world to him and introduced him to wonderful new friends. For Jason, Bailey, Trent, and their fellow campers discovered they were Magickers, gifted with special abilities which the Council of adult Magickers would help train. But not all who worked magick could be trusted. There were those who had sworn to keep all power to themselves, the Dark Hand of Brennard. Harried by the Dark Hand and by the beastly wolfjackals of chaos who also seemed called by magick, there is no place for Jason and his friends to learn or hide. The only hope for safety lay in the land called Haven. Jason had found a Gate into this place, but it remains unstable and mostly unreachable. If only Jason could find the other Gate, but he has no clue as to what or where it could be. The Council of Magickers has already been undermined by a traitor in their midst, as well as their own disagreements and bickering. Worse is a mysterious ailment which seems to be sapping the very life force out of some of the Magickers. Is it a backlash to their magick or a trap of the Dark Hand? The only thing Jason is certain of is that he has to find the missing Gate to Haven but even the Haven Dragon – who had been helpful to Jason in the past – has refused to assist him in his desperate quest…
